This collection of letters was discovered in the backlog of the Galveston & Texas History Center vault in early 1999. It appears to be from an unprocessed scrapbook from the original James B. and Charles J. Stubbs Papers (MSS# 75-0004), which were processed in 1975.
Written on the spine of the wooden scrap book was “No. 6; Letters from Nov. 1 1885 to April 3, 1886. J. B. Stubbs.”
The letters appear to be mainly business related. There are a few letters from a cousin and his sister, Katie Stubbs. The letter were kept in the original alphabetical order, filed by the writer’s last name. One folder represents letters written by Sheriff’s of various Texas counties. Every effort should be made to double check the names on those missives with the other alphabetical filings.
